I love lists & nobody does it better than you!
Great list!

Another Country...maybe?

Glad to see Sunday Bloody Sunday on that list. You will be surprised how many old timers never heard of it and mistake it for Black Sunday lol!

Then they are surprised it has Murray Head, Peter Finch and Glenda Jackson in it!

Don't leave out the tv movies!
Here's some more...
(Okay, I was involved in producing both of these.)

Deep Dish said...

Hey, DRC, I did include FROST and BAND on my list.

The Trip. Makes me cry every time.

I just saw 'A Love to Hide' and while the story is tragic, it is a very well made movie and brings to life a not well known part of our history.

Anonymous said...

Eytan Fox Films, Yossi & Jagger and The Bubble.
Also Shelter

Deep Dish said...

Hey, Anonymous, Shelter is on my list! :)

One of my favorite movies is "Doña Herlinda y su hijo (1985)". It is in spanish but don't get discouraged, there are subtitles (and I dont speak Spanish but I love the movie). It is funny and endearing and really remarkable that a Mexican film from 1985 treats being gay in a 2009 kind of way. You will LOVE the Mother.

Deep Dish said...

Hey, Gary, thanks for the film recommendation. I'll have to check it out.

Ypu left out Robinson Caruso on Mars (1964)

Hi Dish

That's a great list. Thank you! I've been looking for something like this.

Please don't leave out "Les chansons d'amour" (aka Love Songs). It's French and admittedly a little corny, but very romantic ... There are subtitles.

Deep Dish said...

Hey, Janus, glad you like my list!

Thanks for putting 'Another Country' on the list. It is not well known in the USA and hard to find - but Rupert Everett, Colin Firth and Cary Elwes together in a gay movie when they were all young hotties! It's an excellent film, well worth the trouble to find.

Andy Christensen said...

you should also check out Mulligans (2008). I feel like if you watched it, it would definitely have made this list.

Hey, Andy, thanks for the film recommendation! said...

Have you ever done a worst gay film list? I nominate "I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry (2007)". Never really wanted to see it but I was bored and it was on so I watched it. What were they thinking? And the asian stereotype was horrible... reminded me of Jerry Lewis.

Deep Dish said...

Sorry, no worst gay film list--but if I ever do, I'll definitely put that one on it. It just looked bad from its trailer.

Nick said...

"Ma Vie en Rose" is one of my favourites and would be a great one to add to this list.

Deep Dish said...

Thanks for the film recommendation, Nick! :)

"magic christian"/and,thanks for "myra breckenridge",i have always, and will always LOVE this movie."stonewall" is actually good.thank you so much for the list!

I would add:
101: A Single Man--gorgeous film making, if a little hollow in the script and directing, supplemented by some of the best acting ever by Colin Firth as a crushed gay man who seems to attract some of the hottest young bucks of the 1960s. I often felt a churning in my boy parts during the film, while at the same time I fell in love with Firth's character.

Deep Dish said...

Hey, Thom, I agree that A Single Man definitely deserves to be on the list. It is a gorgeous film with a brilliant performance by Colin Firth.

WannabeVirginia W. said...

That is an awesome list. I have bookmarked it.

Living in a small town most of these movies didn't make it to this mainstream aside from Milk, Philadelphia.

A single man has not made it here. That upsets me.

Wayne said...

LOVE the list but there is one missing--"Jeffrey". I agree it's not a GREAT movie but it was fun and had a few hot gay kisses. Also it had Patrick Stewart playing an older gay man to perfection:)

Deep Dish said...

Hey, Wayne, Jeffrey is on my list at #55.

I have seen most of the movies on this list, and checking out the titles helped to jog my memory. Thanks. However, I did not see Kilometer Zero (2000) anywhere. It is set in Spain and has pretty good intersecting storylines. It is one of my favorites.

So... love the list, but since people had the nerve to give suggestions I thought I'd add a couple of my favourites.
The Dying Gaul
I'm glad to say I've seen 61 of them... Updating my netflix queue

I updated this list last month with a new 2010 edition:

Wow, you've got a cool list there. I actually started a website which features my reviews and ratings of gay themed movies. Maybe you'd like to have a look. Don't worry, it's a non-profit website, so this isn't any spam :-) It does not even have advertisements. I put a lot of efforts into creating the site, i's still very new though - but growing :-)

Deep Dish said...

Congratulations on your groovy new website, QC! Glad you like my list.
