The Groove Tube #61: Nashville's Gunnar & Scarlett are TV's Cutest Crooning Duo

Welcome to The Groove Tube, a weekly recap of the highlights (and lowlights) of some of the scripted TV shows I'm watching (in order of preference):

TV Series of the Week: Nashville
"Dear Brother" (Episode 14/February 27, 2013)

Most Unique Birthday Movie of the Week: Deacon always watches the 1957 Disney film, Old Yeller, on his birthday.

Cutest Pet of the Week: Juliette gave Deacon a puppy as a birthday gift.

Saddest Death of the Week: Gunnar's cute brother Jason was found beaten to death in an alley.

Best Sex of the Week: Blaming himself for his brother's death, Gunnar found more than comfort in Scarlett's arms as these two kids finally hooked up.

Best Line Runner-Up: “Did she just call me 'madam'?” - Rayna

Best Line: "She's nicer than I heard she was" - country singer Pam Tillis about Juliette

Grade: A+ (an outstanding episode filled with drama and humor)

2) Dallas
"Blame Game" (Episode 16/February 25, 2013)

Best Mama Bear of the Week: Sue Ellen, who helped her son John Ross gain control of Ewing Energies by seizing control of Elena's shares.

Best Shot of the Week: Drew shot and killed Vicente Cano, who held the Ewings hostage at Southfork.

Best Sentencing of the Week: The judge sentenced Ann to probation for shooting her evil ex-husband.

Best Line: "Honey, I don’t need any more angry birds" - J.R. to his female computer tutor

Grade: A (a tense, dramatic episode)

3) Once Upon a Time
"The Queen Is Dead" (Episode 37/March 3, 2013)

Grooviest Guest Star of the Week Runner-Up: Rena Sofer (General Hospital, Melrose Place) as Snow White's mother, Queen Eva.

Grooviest Guest Star of the Week Honorable Mention: Lesley Nicol (Downton Abbey's Mrs. Patmore) as Snow White's former servant, Johanna.

Saddest Death of the Week Runner-Up: Queen Eva died after Cora poisoned her in order to make Regina the new Queen.

Most Evil Bitch of the Week: Cora, who threw Johanna from the clock tower to her death after finally getting her hands on The Dark One's dagger. And it was also revealed that she murdered Snow White's mother years ago.

Best Cliffhanger of the Week: Snow White vowed to kill Cora, while Emma was surprised to meet Neal's fiancee Tamara!

Grade: A

4) Modern Family
"Best Men" (Episode 89/February 27, 2013)

Grooviest Guest Star of the Week: Elizabeth Banks returned as Cal and Mitchell's party girl friend Sal, who was getting married.

Grade: A (a funny episode)

5) The Walking Dead
"Clear" (Episode 31/March 3, 2013)

Best Return of the Week: Rick was reunited with his old friend Morgan, who was last seen in the pilot episode.

Grade: B (this was a good Michonne episode as she bonded with Rick and Carl during their trip to their hometown to retrieve guns)

6) The New Normal
"Rocky Bye Baby" (Episode 17/February 26, 2013)

Grade: B (this episode about Bryan and David becoming foster parents was a bit too sappy)

7) Smash
"The Song" (Episode 19/February 26, 2013)

Most Boring Storyline of the Week: Julia and Peter worked together to fix the Bombshell script (yawn).

Best Musical Number: Veronica Moore's "I Got Love" from the 1970 Broadway musical, Purlie.

Best Musical Number Runner-Up: The 1971 Billy Joel tune, "Everybody Loves You Now", sung by Kyle and Veronica.

Most Disappointing Musical Number: Veronica performed Derek's sexed-up version of "I Got Love" during her concert, but I much prefer the original.

Grade: B- (the drama was kind of dull, but I enjoyed most of the musical numbers)
