10 Groovy Movies to See This Summer



Today in the mail I received Entertainment Weekly's Summer Movie Preview with "all the buzz on 109 new films", so here is a list of 10 movies that caught my eye (in order of their release dates):

Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's (release date: May 3)
Director: Matthew Miele
This documentary features interviews with Joan Rivers, Susan Lucci, Candice Bergen and Tom Ford.



The Great Gatsby (May 10)
Director: Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!)
Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire



The English Teacher (May 17)
Director: Craig Zisk (this is his first feature film)
Stars: Julianne Moore, Greg Kinnear, Nathan Lane, Norbert Leo Butz



Much Ado About Nothing (June 7)
Director: Joss Whedon (The Avengers)
Stars: Nathan Fillion, Clark Gregg, Sean Maher, Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof



I'm So Excited (June 28)
Director: Pedro Almodóvar (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown)
Stars: Javier Cámara, Cecilia Roth, cameos by Antonio Banderas and Penélope Cruz



The Way, Way Back (July 5)
Directors: Nat Faxon & Jim Rash (they won an Oscar for their screenplay for 2011's The Descendants; this is their directorial debut)

Girl Most Likely (July 19) (Imogene was its original title)
Directors: Shari Springer Berman & Robert Pulcini (American Splendor, HBO's Cinema Verite)
Stars: Kristen Wiig, Darren Criss, Annette Bening, Matt Dillon



Blue Jasmine (July 26)
Director: Woody Allen
Stars: Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Louis C.K.
A drama about the final stages of an acute crisis and a life of a fashionable New York housewife.

Lovelace (August 9)
Directors: Rob Epstein & Jeffrey Friedman (The Celluloid Closet)

Austenland (August 16)
