Top 10 Tuesday of Groovy Tunes: Last night the 5th Dimension didn't get to sleep at all

Each week I feature 10 groovy tunes that have appeared on Billboard's Hot 100 chart during the last 50+ years. You can vote for your three favorites, and the five with the most votes move on to the following week when five new songs will be added to the list.

Last week the Mamas & the Papas remained at the top with "California Dreamin'", which received 25 votes out of the 129 cast. And this week they will be challenged by the 5th Dimension, Joni Mitchell and the Mamas & the Papas.

1) "California Dreamin'"/The Mamas & the Papas (Last Week #1, Week 9) - 17 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1966

2) "We Are Family"/Sister Sledge (W2) - #3 the week of June 9, 1979

3) "Do You Know the Way to San Jose"/Dionne Warwick (W2) - #21 the week of June 8, 1968

4) "Here Comes the Rain Again"/Eurythmics (LW #3, W11) - 20 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1984

5) "Smooth Operator"/Sade (LW #2, W3) - #13 the week of June 8, 1985

6) "It's Not Unusual"/Tom Jones (DEBUT) - #10 the week of June 5, 1965

7) "Creeque Alley"/The Mamas & the Papas (DEBUT) - #10 the week of June 10, 1967

8) "(Last Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep at All"/The 5th Dimension (DEBUT) - #10 the week of June 10, 1972

9) "Help Me"/Joni Mitchell (DEBUT) - #7 the week of June 8, 1974

10) "Happy Days"/Pratt & McClain (DEBUT) - #5 the week of June 5, 1976

Oh what an interesting list to choose from this week. I ended up going with The Mamas and The Papas, The 5th Dimension and Sister Sledge. Fascinating...

The first two were easy-The Fifth Dimension and California Dreamin', Creeque Alley has an interesting history behind it but that doesn't necessarily make a great song, but the third was a tough choice.

I was torn between Dionne Warwick and Tom Jones. I went with Dionne but now wish I had voted for It's Not Unusual since San Jose is doing fine without me but Tom is lagging behind.
