Top 10 Tuesday of Groovy Tunes: Boogie Woogie Bugle Bette

Each week I feature 10 groovy tunes that have appeared on Billboard's Hot 100 chart during the last 50+ years. You can vote for your three favorites, and the five with the most votes move on to the following week when five new songs will be added to the list.

Last week ABBA claimed the top spot with "Knowing Me, Knowing You", which received 30 votes out of the 139 cast. And this week they will be challenged by the 5th Dimension, Barry Manilow and Bette Midler.

1) "Knowing Me, Knowing You"/ABBA (Week 2) - #14 the week of July 30, 1977

2) "California Dreamin'"/The Mamas & the Papas (LW #1, W17) - 17 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1966

3) "Walk On By"/Dionne Warwick (LW #3, W6) - 13 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1964

4) "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me"/Dusty Springfield (LW #2, W3) - #15 the week of July 30, 1966

5) "Turn the Beat Around"/Vicki Sue Robinson (W2) - #14 the week of July 31, 1976

6) "Up, Up and Away"/The 5th Dimension (DEBUT) - #19 the week of August 5, 1967

7) "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"/Bette Midler (DEBUT) - #16 the week of August 4, 1973

8) "Copacabana (At the Copa)"/Barry Manilow (DEBUT) - #12 the week of August 5, 1978

9) "(Keep Feeling) Fascination"/The Human League (DEBUT) - #17 the week of July 30, 1983

10) "Friday I'm in Love"/The Cure (DEBUT) - #19 the week of August 1, 1992

It somehow feels very strange to vote for three songs from the 1970's (when my voting usually tends to swing toward the 1960's), BUT... this week I had to vote for those totally groovy Swedes (aka ABBA). Then, as Will Truman would say: "I'm a SERIOUS "Fanilow", so obviously Barry gets a vote. And finally, let's round out the list with the ever fabulous Divine Miss. M! Wow... what a week!

I'm shocked, Lance! No '60s songs for you? What is this world coming to? Seriously though, you selected 3 groovy tunes - thanks for sharing!
