Top 10 Tuesday of Groovy Tunes: Petula Clark never sleeps in the subway

Each week I feature 10 groovy tunes that have appeared on Billboard's Hot 100 chart during the last 50+ years. You can vote for your three favorites, and the five with the most votes move on to the following week when five new songs will be added to the list.

Last week Barbra Streisand claimed the top spot with "People", which received 24 votes out of the 151 cast. And this week she will be challenged by Carly Simon, Soft Cell and Petula Clark.

1) "People"/Barbra Streisand (Week 2) - #7 the week of July 11, 1964

2) "Walk On By"/Dionne Warwick (LW #1, W3) - #20 the week of July 11, 1964

3) "California Dreamin'"/The Mamas & the Papas (LW #2, W14) - 17 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1966

4) "Would I Lie to You?"/Eurythmics (W2) - #5 the week of July 13, 1985

5) "(Last Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep at All"/The 5th Dimension (LW #4, W6) - #33 the week of July 15, 1972

6) "Don't Sleep in the Subway"/Petula Clark (DEBUT) - #5 the week of July 15, 1967

7) "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be"/Carly Simon (DEBUT) - #10 the week of July 10, 1971

8) "Dance With Me"/Peter Brown (DEBUT) - #8 the week of July 15, 1978

9) "Tainted Love"/Soft Cell (DEBUT) - #9 the week of July 10, 1982

Thanks for your comment, Richard, but I already featured Petula's "My Love" back in March. However, a few of her other hits, including "A Sign of the Times", "Colour My World" and "Kiss Me Goodbye", will probably show up in the future.
