The Groove Tube #80: Chris Messina + Nudity = Hottest Hunk of the Week

Welcome to The Groove Tube, a weekly recap of the Best and the Worst of some of the scripted TV shows I'm watching (in order of preference):

TV Series of the Week: American Horror Story: Coven
"Boy Parts" (Episode 27/October 16, 2013)

Best Opening Scene of the Week: Misty Day brought dead alligators back to life to attack and eat two trappers, who pulled a gun on her.

Grooviest Music of the Week: Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen" and Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon", which Misty - a devoted Stevie fan - enjoys listening to.

Most Interesting Sex of the Week: Hoping to conceive a child, Cordelia used a magic spell while having sex with her husband Hank.

Best Resurrection of the Week: Zoe and Madison broke into the morgue to bring Kyle back to life, and they used the best "boy parts" of him and his dead frat brothers to build the perfect boyfriend (obviously this storyline is inspired by Mary Shelley's Frankenstein novel, and it also reminded me of the Adam character on the 1966-71 gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows).

Best Witch of the Week: Lily Rabe as Misty Day, who told Zoe she would heal Kyle - and you gotta love her Stevie Nicks obsession.

Grade: A+ (I loved this episode with its many intriguing storylines - and next week the one and only Patti LuPone makes her AHS debut!)

2) Revenge
"Mercy" (Episode 48/October 20, 2013)

Hottest Hunk of the Week Runner-Up: A shirtless Patrick was seen once again at the beach club.

Best Devious Duo of the Week: Victoria and Patrick worked together to take over an art gallery by blackmailing the owner.

Best Kiss of the Week: My gaydar was right as Patrick kissed Nolan!

Grade: A (a new gay storyline is always a cause for celebration)

3) The Mindy Project
"Wiener Night" (Episode 29/October 15, 2013)

Hottest Hunk of the Week: Chris Messina as Dr. Danny Castellano, who wasn't too happy about his ex-wife's art show featuring nude photos of him.

Best Kiss of the Week Honorable Mention: Danny kissed Mindy on the cheek (how sweet).

Grade: A (a very funny episode)

4) Scandal
"Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington" (Episode 32/October 17, 2013)

Grooviest Guest Star of the Week: Cynthia Stevenson (who has appeared in the films, Home for the Holidays and Happiness, as well as on Bob Newhart's 1992-93 sitcom, Bob) as Mary Nesbitt, Olivia's distraught new client who refused to believe the government's lie that her dead son was a terrorist and blew herself up with a bomb.

Grade: A (a sad but effective episode)

5) Nashville
"You're No Angel Yourself" (Episode 25/October 16, 2013)

Best Gift of the Week: The wealthy Charlie Wentworth gave Juliette a car as a thank-you gift after she slept with him.

Best Reconciliation of the Week: Rayna reconciled with her 13-year-old daughter Maddie after the girl ran away when she learned that her father was marrying Peggy.

Best Musical Number Runner-Up: Maddie and Daphne sang "A Life That's Good".

Best Musical Number: Scarlett and Zoey sang the Supremes' 1964 hit, "Come See About Me".

Grade: B+ (it was a decent episode, but there wasn't enough soapy drama)

6) The Walking Dead
"Infected" (Episode 37/October 20, 2013)

Saddest Scene of the Week: Lizzie and Mika said goodbye to their father, who was bitten by a walker, but the former was unable to stab him in the head to prevent him from becoming a zombie.

Best Cliffhanger of the Week: Tyreese discovered the burned corpses of his girlfriend Karen and their friend David, who were both infected by the potentially fatal flu. Who killed them?

Grade: B+ (not the most exciting episode, but I liked the ending)

7) Witches of East End
"Today I Am a Witch" (Episode 3/October 20, 2013)

Hottest Hunk of the Week Honorable Mention: A shirtless Eric Winter as Dash Gardiner.

Worst Co-Workers of the Week: Killian got a job as a bartender at the Bent Elbow where Freya works, which probably isn't a good thing due to their feelings for each other.

Best Kiss of the Week Runner-Up: Ingrid kissed Adam.

Grade: B

8) Once Upon a Time
"Nasty Habits" (Episode 48/October 20, 2013)

Best Vision of the Week: Mr. Gold chatted with a vision of Belle while in Neverland (which is the only way for actress Emilie de Ravin to make an appearance since her character was left behind in Storybrooke).

Best Special Effects of the Week: Neal blew into a shell to lure a giant squid from the sea.

Best Revelation of the Week: In this week's flashback story, Peter Pan turned out to be the Pied Piper, whose music could only be heard by boys who felt unloved - including Rumplestiltskin's son Baelfire.

Grade: C (I'm tired of all this jungle drama, which is moving way too slow)
