Illinois says "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do" to Gay Marriage

Today the Illinois House of Representatives passed a bill legalizing gay marriage, putting the Land of Lincoln on course to be the 15th state (plus Washington D.C.) to legalize the committed love between two fabulous individuals of the same sex. The bill now returns to the Democratically-controlled state senate, which approved it earlier this year, and after Governor Pat Quinn signs the bill (which he has pledged to do), gay weddings will begin in Illinois starting next June.

I am definitely proud to be an Illinoisan today - and a special shout-out of thanks should go to Rep. Greg Harris for all of his hard work as the sponsor of the bill.

UPDATE (11/5/13, 5:20 pm): The Illinois Senate has approved the House version of the bill, which will now be sent to Gov. Quinn for his signature.
