Web Series Worth Watching: Break out the champagne as PRETTY returns for a 4th season

Web Series of the Week: PRETTY
When the third season of this hilarious mockumentary about children's beauty pageants ended in February 2012, I assumed that we had seen the last of Annette Champagne. But never say never because now creator Steve Silverman has brought back Annette, who is all grown up and running her own dance studio (and still played by the fabulous Stacy McQueen). She's also become a boozy, foul-mouthed "Dance Mom" with a Bette Davis cigarette and a tough attitude to match. In other words, Annette is a hoot to watch - and so is PRETTY. The cast also includes the wonderful Dee Freeman as Annette's mother Ribina and the always amusing Diane Delano (from TV's Popular) as dance mom Gladys as well as Michael Caruso, the incredibly talented creator and star of the web series, DeVanity, who shows up as Annette's ex-husband Shay. Thank you, Mr. Silverman, for this belated Christmas present, which I look forward to enjoying.

PLEASE NOTE: The next Web Series Worth Watching will be on Sunday, January 25.

Other web series worth watching this week are:

Anacostia
It's been over two years since we last saw this series, but now creator Anthony Anderson has given his devoted fans a fourth season as a belated Christmas present - and Anacostia is still a deliciously addictive drama. The story continues with the aftermath of Raymond's attempt to stop Sean and Julian's wedding with a bomb. Meanwhile, Alexis is not happy to see someone from her past, and Nancy meets a handsome stranger.

To catch up on Anacostia, subscribe to its YouTube channel. You can also follow the series on Facebook and Twitter.

Ave 43
This darkly comic and thoroughly twisted soap opera continues as Scampers goes to therapy, Walter and TJ announce their engagement, and Irene gets frisky. If you haven't watched Ave 43 before, I recommend that you begin with Episode 1 on its YouTube channel. You can also become a fan on Facebook.

The Bay
Another season of this sudsy soap opera comes to a dramatic end as everyone gathers together for Marly's funeral. Guest stars include Lindsay Hartley (Passions, All My Children), Gavin Houston (The Haves and the Have Nots), Ilene Kristen (One Life to Live), A Martinez (Santa Barbara) and Judith McConnell (Santa Barbara). To catch up on The Bay, go to thebaytheseries.com. You can also follow the series on Facebook and Twitter.

The Boys Who Brunch
Season 2 of this gay web series comes to an end with some dramatic cliffhangers, including an unexpected twist in Mason and Elliott's friendship. For more Boys, go to www.theboyswhobrunch.com. You can also follow the series on Facebook and Twitter.

GAYS: The Series
This dramedy about four 20-something gay best friends in NYC continues as Ben and his boss Olivia experience the morning after, Jackson confronts Cameron about his job, and Huxley and Parker become better acquainted. To catch up on GAYS, go to www.gaystheseries.com. You can also follow the series on Facebook and Twitter.

Old Dogs & New Tricks
Another season of this groovy gay comedy comes to an end as the guys celebrate Christmas with lots of drama - including a viral sex tape - and special guest star Kathryn Leigh Scott (from the original Dark Shadows) shows up as Muscles' mother. And, of course, there is a shocking cliffhanger, which I hope means that there will be a fourth season.

To catch up on the series, go to www.ODNT.tv. You can also follow ODNT on Facebook and Twitter.

Steam Room Stories
In the latest episodes of this sexy sketch comedy, the guys discuss what it means to be a "Gold Star Gay" and celebrate the holidays. For more Steam Room Stories, go to www.steamroomstories.com. You can also follow the series on Facebook and Twitter.

Steve Hayes: Tired Old Queen at the Movies
The fabulous film critic celebrates the Christmas season with a review of George Cukor's Holiday (1938), starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. For more TOQ, subscribe to his YouTube channel. You can also become a fan on Facebook and follow Steve on Twitter.

Thurston
Edmund Snead (Walt Willey) and his wife Agnes (Colleen Zenk) go for a stroll in the Season 3 Finale of this Western drama. To catch up on Thurston, go to www.thurston-series.com. You can also follow the series on Facebook and Twitter. And the Thurston photo is by Tyger Belton.
