To celebrate Saturday Night Live's 40th anniversary on October 11, I thought it would be fun to feature some of the show's most memorable moments (in chronological order). Click here to see previous posts - and now let's look back at SNL's 10th and 11th seasons (1984-86):

1) "Synchronized Swimming"
Episode 179/October 6, 1984
In their first episode as cast members, Martin Short and Christopher Guest appear in a short film about two brothers who hope to compete as synchronized swimmers in the 1992 Summer Olympics.



2) "The Question is Moot!"
Episode 181/October 20, 1984
Featuring the Reverend Jesse Jackson as a game show host.



3) "Lou Grant Rescue Mission"
Episode 184/November 17, 1984
Featuring host Ed Asner as Lou Grant, Mary Gross as Mary Richards, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Rhoda Morgenstern, Billy Crystal as Ted Baxter, Pamela Stephenson as Georgette Baxter, and Christopher Guest as Murray Slaughter.



4) "Kate & Ali"
Episode 185/December 1, 1984
Muhammad Ali (Billy Crystal) and Katherine Hepburn (Martin Short) star in a sitcom together.



5) "White Like Me"
Episode 187/December 15, 1984
Host Eddie Murphy masquerades as a white man in this short mockumentary.



6) "Mister Robinson's Neighborhood"
Episode 187/December 15, 1984
Mister Robinson (Eddie Murphy) celebrates Christmas.



7) "Donahue Green Room"
Episode 188/January 12, 1985
Fernando Lamas (Billy Crystal) visits Phil Donahue's green room, where he meets midget transvestites, a Nazi and subway vigilante Bernhard Goetz.


8) "Fernando at Night of 100 Stars"
Episode 192/February 16, 1985
Fernando Lamas (Billy Crystal) goes to Radio City Music Hall to interview some of the actors from TV's Night of 100 Stars, including Teri Garr, Susan Lucci, Morgan Fairchild and Ann-Margret.



9) "Superman Auditions"
Episode 194/April 6, 1985
Host Christopher Reeve auditions for the 1978 Superman movie in this sketch that also features cast members Jim Belushi, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Rich Hall and Gary Kroeger.



10) "Bad Seed"
Episode 207/March 15, 1986
First Lady Nancy Reagan (Terry Sweeney) responds to her daughter Patti's tell-all book by announcing the publication of her own book, Bad Seed.
