Remembering Pat Harrington Jr. 1929 - 2016



Actor Pat Harrington Jr., who died Wednesday at age 86, was best known for his role as building superintendent Dwayne Schneider on the 1975-84 CBS sitcom, One Day at a Time. He won a 1984 Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series as well as a 1980 Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Series.

His other television credits include The Steve Allen Show (1958-61), The Jack Paar Show (1958-62), Make Room for Daddy (1959-60), Stump the Stars (1962 game show as its host), The Inspector (1965-69 cartoon) and Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1969-70 sitcom). He appeared in such feature films as Move Over, Darling (1963), Easy Come, Easy Go (1967) and The President's Analyst (1967).  He also starred as Oscar opposite Tim Conway's Felix in a 1987 national tour of The Odd Couple, and he played the role of Cap'n Andy in a 1997-98 national tour of Show Boat.
