The Groovy List revisits the 1970s with Maude, Rhoda, Phyllis, Betty & Diana
The Groovy List is a weekly Top 10 of recommended videos featuring pop culture and gorgeous guys:
1) Groovy Lady: The Lady Chablis
The transgender performer, who died Thursday at age 59, was featured in John Berendt's best-selling 1994 book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and she played herself in the 1997 film version. The Lady Chablis had frequently performed at Club One in Savannah, Georgia, since the nightclub opened in 1988, and she released Hiding My Candy: The Autobiography of the Grand Empress of Savannah in 1996. 2) Groovy Surprise
With her talk show beginning its 14th season this week, Ellen DeGeneres arranged for Katy Perry to surprise her guest Tony Marreros (who survived the Orlando gay nightclub shooting in June).
3) Groovy TV Flashback #1: Maude
Bea Arthur starred as Maude Findlay in this CBS sitcom, which debuted on September 12, 1972, and ran for six seasons. 4) Groovy TV Flashback #2: Rhoda
Valerie Harper starred as Rhoda Morgenstern in this CBS sitcom, which debuted on September 9, 1974, and ran for five seasons. 5) Groovy TV Flashback #3: Phyllis
Cloris Leachman starred as Phyllis Lindstrom in this CBS sitcom, which debuted on September 8, 1975, and ran for two season. Below you can watch the Season 2 episode, "Out of the Closet", in which Phyllis's new boyfriend reveals that he's gay.
6) Groovy TV Flashback #4: The Betty White Show
Betty White starred as actress Joyce Whitman in this CBS sitcom, which debuted on September 12, 1977, and ran for 14 episodes. Below you can watch the last episode (from January 1978) as well as White's 1977 interview with Fritz the Nite Owl on Nite Owl Theatre, which aired in Columbus, Ohio, from 1974 to 1991.
7) Groovy TV Flashback #5: Diana
