Groovy Comics #1: Brenda Starr, Reporter (1940)

I've been a fan of comic strips all my life, and I still have many of the original daily and Sunday strips that I collected as a kid. So I thought it would be fun to feature some of my favorites as well as a few that I've always wanted to read.

We're going to begin with Brenda Starr, Reporter, which was created by Dale Messick. The glamorous newspaper reporter made her debut on Sunday, June 30, 1940 (a daily strip was added in 1945), and had exotic adventures and steamy romances for over 70 years. She was even brought to life in four films, including a 1976 TV movie with Jill St. John and a 1992 box office bomb starring Brooke Shields. Below you can enjoy the first four Sunday strips.

We now jump ahead to November 3, 1940, in which Brenda meets her nemesis, Daphne Dimples. Below you can enjoy nine more strips from 1940, and by New Year's Eve our heroine is locking lips with a handsome stranger!
