Groovy Comics #3: Brenda Starr, Reporter (1941)
Today we look back at Brenda's exotic adventures and steamy romances of 1941. Below you can enjoy the first four Sunday strips of the year, in which the glamorous newspaper reporter gets to know the handsome Larry Nickels (click here to read the first Brenda Starr post).
Unfortunately, Brenda's working vacation in Sun Valley does not end well - but by Easter, she is ready for two new jobs (as an advice-to-the-lovelorn columnist and a secret agent).
At the end of July, Brenda and The Flash staff are invited to a pool party, where movie star Harold Hansome is the big attraction. And Brenda Starr Fashion Cut-Outs (paper dolls) become a new weekly feature (I'm only including a few of them). (NOTE: Double-click on strips to enlarge).
In August 1941, Brenda is reunited with her cousin Abretha Breeze from Indiana and her cute little dog, Tornado.
Brenda stops being a "man hater" in October 1941, and in December, she and reporter Tom Taylor discover the hideout of the "Cupid", a notorious bandit and "woman hater".
