Remembering Robert Michael Morris 1940 - 2017

Actor Robert Michael Morris, who died Tuesday at age 77, was best known for his role as hairdresser Mickey Deane on the 2005 HBO series, The Comeback, and the 2014 revival (Morris met the show's creator, Michael Patrick King, when King was a college student and Morris directed him in a play). He also played Will Arnett's nanny, Mr. Lunt, on the 2010 Fox sitcom, Running Wilde.

Morris appeared in many stage productions over the years, including Pippin and Walking Happy (with Tommy Tune), Annie and Hello, Dolly! (with Jo Anne Worley), and Picnic (with Joe Namath). And he was a prolific playwright, writing over 100 plays during his lifetime.

On a personal note, Morris was a longtime Facebook friend whom I was honored to feature here on DEEP DISH in 2010 (click here to read his interview). After I posted it, he sent me the following message:

"How nice and how kind. I owe you, Toots. If anything positive happens in what I laughingly call a career, I'll let you know. Loved the choice of clips. Very very nice. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Thank YOU, Michael. You will be missed.
