Remembering Ron Weaver and his favorite pop culture

My friend, Ron Weaver, left us much too soon on Monday at age 52. He was the longtime Box Office Manager for the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, and last fall he had his first play produced - Bewildered, a musical parody of TV's Bewitched - by Chicago's Hell in a Handbag Productions. Ron liked cats (that's Nigel in the pic), musical theatre, Democrats (especially Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton) and T-shirts with quotes from his favorite movies and TV shows. So as a tribute to him, I thought it would be fun to feature some of the groovy pop culture that he enjoyed.

The Women (1939)

Auntie Mame (1958)

Bewitched (1964-72) featuring Alice Pearce

What's Up, Doc? (1972)

Divine in Female Trouble (1974)

Cher and The Carol Burnett Show (1967-78)

Xanadu (1980)

The Golden Girls (1985-92)

Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin in Big Business (1988)

Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997)

Ron featured these last two videos on his Facebook page a few weeks ago.

Joan Cusack in Sixteen Candles (1984)

Teach-In was a Dutch band, best known for winning the Eurovision Song Contest 1975 with their song "Ding-A-Dong" ("I've fallen down a disco-era rabbit hole!" - Ron).

That was a lovely tribute to Ron and a wonderfully-curated pop culture smorgasbord. It's really hard to believe he left us so quickly. I hope he is now THE Eunice Burns and has laid his paws all over Howard's rocks...
