Four years before she became Murphy Brown and won five Emmy Awards, the actress was best known for her film career (Carnal Knowledge, Starting Over) and for being "Charlie McCarthy's little sister" (the beloved dummy of her ventriloquist father, Edgar Bergen). And in her engaging memoir, she discusses her relationship with her father and her struggle to come to terms with herself.

Spring Street is a Web Series Worth Watching

Web Series of the Week: Spring Street
So far this engaging LBGTQ drama is my favorite new web series of 2017. It tells the story of a reclusive piano teacher, Christopher, whose life in New York City is dramatically changed with the arrival of his pregnant, heroin-addicted sister and a charming new student with a duplicitous past. Based on the first two episodes, Spring Street is an intriguing mixture of mystery and music with a hint of some future gay romance, and the performances are all quite good, especially series creator David Beck and Alanna Blair (as Christopher and his sister, Anna). So I look forward to seeing how this "not your typical love story" unfolds during its nine-episode first season.

73 Groovy Things about Diana Ross on her birthday

Today I'm celebrating Diana Ross's 73rd birthday by sharing a "few" groovy things about her life and career:

1. Diane Ernestine Earle Ross was born in Detroit, Michigan, on March 26, 1944. Her mother named her "Diane", but a clerical error resulted in her name being recorded as "Diana" on her birth certificate (she began going by "Diana" in 1965).
