Remembering Dr. Joyce Brothers 1927 - 2013

Psychologist and TV personality Dr. Joyce Brothers, who died earlier today at age 85, first became famous in 1955 on the CBS game show, The $64,000 Question, when she won as an expert in the subject of boxing. She then became the first woman to ever be a boxing commentator during a 1958 CBS boxing match between Carmen Basilio and Sugar Ray Robinson. And later in 1958, she began hosting her own TV advice show about relationships.

However, I remember Dr. Brothers from her frequent appearances over the years on such TV series and game shows as Match Game, Happy Days, The Love Boat, WKRP in Cincinnati, Charlie's Angels, Hollywood Squares, Mama's Family, Moonlighting, Frasier, Melrose Place, Sisters, The Nanny, Ally McBeal and many others. She also appeared in some feature films, including Hero at Large (1980), The King of Comedy (1983), The Lonely Guy (1984), Troop Beverly Hills (1989) and Analyze That (2002).

Below you can watch her on . . .

the 1977-81 syndicated variety series, Sha Na Na.

the syndicated talk show parody, America 2-Night, on June 7, 1978 (her interview begins at 11:30).

the 1979 NBC game show, All Star Secrets.

the sitcom, Taxi, on March 25, 1982.

Late Night with Conan O'Brien in the 1990s.
