Remembering Jeanne Cooper 1928 - 2013

Actress Jeanne Cooper, who died earlier today at age 84, will forever be remembered as Katherine Chancellor, the grande dame of Genoa City on CBS's The Young and Restless. However, before she became a daytime legend, she appeared on many other TV series, including the 1969-70 drama, Bracken's World, as a pushy stage mother. And she later guest starred on two episodes of the 1986-94 drama, L.A. Law, as the mother of Arnie Becker (played by Cooper's real-life son Corbin Bernsen). The actress also appeared in such feature films as Tony Rome (1967), The Boston Strangler (1968) and Kansas City Bomber (1972).

In November 1973, Cooper joined The Young and Restless as the wealthy Katherine Chancellor, a role that earned her a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2008 and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. And every soap opera fan should read her wonderful 2012 autobiography, Not Young, Still Restless.

To celebrate Jeanne Cooper's life, below are some videos from her nearly 40-year run on The Young and the Restless.

A 1975 episode starring Donnelly Rhodes as Katherine's husband, Phillip Chancellor.

A 1985 episode starring Brenda Dickson as Katherine's longtime nemesis, Jill Foster Abbott.

A 1989 episode starring Jess Walton as Jill Foster Abbott.

A 1998 episode.

Cooper's 2008 Daytime Emmy Award acceptance speech.

A behind-the-scenes look at Jill and Katherine's cake fight scene during a 2009 episode.

Cooper's final appearance as Katherine Chancellor on May 3, 2013.

Such very sad news. I have always loved Jeanne's character (and the Chancellor house!)... especially when she was doing battle with Jill!

This is ALMOST as tragic as the day Bert Bauer died. Almost. :(
