Remembering Dennis Farina 1944 - 2013

In 1989, I had the pleasure of seeing Dennis Farina on stage in a production of Bleacher Bums, a comedy about a group of avid Chicago Cubs fans in the Wrigley Field bleachers. Both he and the play were quite entertaining. However, Mr. Farina, who died today at age 69, was best known for his many film and television roles. His most notable credits include the 1986-88 NBC drama, Crime Story, NBC's long-running Law & Order (2004-06), the 2005 HBO miniseries, Empire Falls, and the 2011-12 HBO drama, Luck, as well as such movies as Manhunter (1986), Midnight Run (1988), Get Shorty (1995) - for which he won an American Comedy Award for Funniest Supporting Actor, That Old Feeling (1997) opposite Bette Midler, and Saving Private Ryan (1998). Farina was also a Chicago cop for 18 years (1967-85) before becoming an actor.

Below you can watch him in the pilot episode of Crime Story and the trailer for That Old Feeling.
