DVD Dish: Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman: The Complete Series

Yes, folks, you read that correctly - all 325 episodes of Norman Lear's 1976-77 soap opera parody is coming to DVD just in time for Christmas. According to, the fabulous Shout! Factory will be releasing a 38-disc set of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman: The Complete Series on December 3 (click here to purchase the set on Amazon). I've been patiently waiting for more Mary ever since Sony released a 25-episode "Volume 1" DVD in 2007, so this is very groovy news!

UPDATE 9/5/13: Via a press release on, the DVD set will include the following bonus features:

New essays by the show's developer, legendary TV producer Norman Lear, and Pulitzer Prize-winning TV critic Tom Shales.

Inside the Funhouse Mirror documentary featurette - Norman Lear, Louise Lasser and Mary Kay Place talk about the making of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.

On the Verge of documentary featurette - Norman Lear and Louise Lasser remember the famous "Nervous Breakdown" episode where Lasser gives an incomparable performance as Mary, who finds coping with life as "America's Typical Consumer Housewife" beyond her grasp.

10 original episodes of the delirious spinoff, Fernwood 2 Night - Based in Fernwood, Ohio, the fictional town made popular by Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, Fernwood 2 Night is the original TV talk show spoof starring Martin Mull, Fred Willard and Frank De Vol.
