Remembering Jan Hooks 1957 - 2014

I will always fondly remember Jan Hooks from her five seasons (1986-91) on Saturday Night Live and as Carlene Dobber on the final two seasons (1991-93) of CBS's Designing Women. The actress and comedian, who died Thursday at age 57, received a 1998 Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her recurring role as Vicki Dubcek on NBC's 3rd Rock from the Sun. She also played Jenna Maroney's mother Verna in two 2010 episodes of NBC's 30 Rock, and her film credits include Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985), Wildcats (1986), Batman Returns (1992), Coneheads (1993), Simon Birch (1998) and Jiminy Glick in Lalawood (2004).

Below I've selected some videos to celebrate the life and career of Ms. Hooks.

She appeared on Tush, a 1980-81 late-night sketch comedy that aired on SuperStation WTBS.

She played Tina, a tour guide at the Alamo, in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985).

She and Nora Dunn played The Sweeney Sisters, Candy and Liz, with composer Marc Shaiman as their accompanist, Skip St. Thomas. The following SNL sketch aired on December 20, 1986, with guest host William Shatner.

She and Phil Hartman played Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, who were interviewed by SNL's The Church Lady (Dana Carvey) in March 1987.

She played Brenda the Waitress in an SNL sketch with guest host Alec Baldwin that aired on April 21, 1990.

She played Sinead O'Connor, who was a guest on The Sinatra Group with host Frank Sinatra (Phil Hartman). This SNL sketch aired on January 19, 1991.

"The Lying Game", a Designing Women episode that aired on May 7, 1993.

Her first appearance as Vicki Dubcek on 3rd Rock from the Sun on November 24, 1996.
