Top Ten David Letterman Moments of 1988-89

In honor of David Letterman's final Late Show on May 20 - and to celebrate his 33 years as the longest-serving late night talk show host in TV history - I thought it would be fun to feature a series of Top Ten Lists of some of his most memorable moments. Click here to see previous Top Ten Lists - and now let's look back at 1988-89 (in chronological order):

1) On February 4, 1988, Late Night’s 90-minute 6th Anniversary Special is broadcast from Radio City Music Hall, featuring the Radio City Rockettes.

2) On July 1, 1988, Dave celebrates his 1,000th show with guest Sandra Bernhard and a surprise appearance by Madonna.

3) On October 4, 1988, Dave gives a pint of blood on the air, and guest Shirley MacLaine thinks that Cher was right about him.

4) Shelley Long wears a Little Bo Peep outfit on February 28, 1989.

5) On April 11, 1989, Dave's guests are Dolly Parton and Bev Tanner, the Baking Lady, who makes her first appearance.

6) Dave's guest is Bette Davis on April 20, 1989.

7) On May 2, 1989, Late Night begins a week of broadcasts from the historic Chicago Theater, and Oprah Winfrey makes her last appearance until 2005.

8) Martha Stewart makes her first appearance on June 6, 1989.

9) On September 6, 1989, Dave's guests are actress Sean Young and a Frisbee-loving dog named Air Major.

10) On November 3, 1989, Julia Roberts makes her first appearance to promote her film, Steel Magnolias.
