Live from New York, it's SNL's Top 10 Moments of 1986-88

To celebrate Saturday Night Live's 40th anniversary on October 11, I thought it would be fun to feature some of the show's most memorable moments (in chronological order). Click here to see previous posts - and now let's look back at SNL's 12th and 13th seasons (1986-88):

1) "Chopping Broccoli"
Episode 219/December 6, 1986
In his first episode as a cast member, Dana Carvey plays British singer/songwriter Derek Stevens. The sketch also features new cast member Phil Hartman and host Sigourney Weaver.

2) "Masterbrain"

Featuring Phil Hartman as President Ronald Reagan and Dana Carvey as Jimmy Stewart.

3) "Get a Life!"

Host William Shatner delivers a speech at a Star Trek convention.

4) "The Sweeney Sisters"

Liz and Candy Sweeney (Nora Dunn, Jan Hooks) perform at their Christmas party (their accompanying pianist is played by Hairspray composer Marc Shaiman).

5) "Church Chat" Episode 222/January 24, 1987 Church Lady (Dana Carvey) chats with Shirley MacLaine (Jan Hooks) and host Joe Montana with fellow NFL player Walter Payton.

6) "The Pat Stevens Show" Episode 223/January 31, 1987 Pat (Nora Dunn) chats with host Paul Shaffer and actor Charlton Heston (Phil Hartman).

7) "Church Chat" Episode 228/March 28, 1987 Church Lady chats with Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker (Phil Hartman, Jan Hooks).

8) "The New Charlie's Angels" Episode 231/May 9, 1987 Featuring Nora Dunn as Donna Rice, Jan Hooks as Jessica Hahn, Victoria Jackson as Fawn Hall, Jon Lovitz as John Bosley, Phil Hartman as Ted Kennedy, and host Mark Harmon as the newest angel, Chase Steele.

9) "Sexiest Man Alive 1986" Episode 231/May 9, 1987 Mark Harmon wears only a towel for his monologue, and then he and actor F. Murray Abraham (Jon Lovitz) compete in People magazine's pageant for "The Sexiest Man Alive 1986" featuring host Peter Graves (Phil Hartman), Pat Stevens (Nora Dunn) and John Travolta (Dana Carvey).

10) "Church Chat" Episode 233/May 23, 1987 Church Lady and host Dennis Hopper discuss his 1986 film, Blue Velvet.
