Remembering Van Williams 1934 - 2016

Actor Van Williams, who died November 28 at age 82, was best known for his role as the Green Hornet (aka Britt Reid) in the 1966-67 ABC series, The Green Hornet. He also played Kenny Madison in the 1959-60 ABC detective series, Bourbon Street Beat, and the 1960-62 spin-off, Surfside 6. Other television credits include the 1964-65 ABC sitcom, The Tycoon, and the 1975-76 NBC Saturday morning series, Westwind.

Williams also appeared in the feature films, Tall Story (1960) and The Caretakers (1963). Below I've selected some videos to celebrate his life and career.

A 1961 episode of Surfside 6

The first episode of The Green Hornet on September 9, 1966

A 1970 segment of ABC's Love, American Style with Richard Long and Claudine Longet

The opening credits to Westwind (1975-76)

A 1990 guest appearance (with his Green Hornet co-star Wende Wagner) on Hal-Land, a Los Angeles public access talk show with host Hal Lifson

I loved Van in The Green Hornet. I had always assumed he (the actor) was gay in real life. In reality, he was not, but I can still wish that he was.

RiP, Mr. Williams.
