Soap Dish #14 (in which Bad Bryan Cranston shows off his Loving side)

Today we celebrate the 34th anniversary of ABC's Loving, which premiered on Sunday, June 26, 1983, as a two-hour primetime movie. Co-created by Agnes Nixon and Douglas Marland, the series was set in the town of Corinth, Pennsylvania, and it starred a 27-year-old Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Malcolm in the Middle) as drama professor Douglas Donovan, who was in love with Merrill Vochek (Patricia Kalember), an ambitious TV newscaster. Episode 1: Sunday, June 26, 1983
While investigating a student's murder, Merrill discovers that Amelia Whitley (the secretary to Garth Slater, the acting president of Alden University) is behind an organized ring of prostitution in Corinth, using young college girls. When her criminal activities are exposed, Amelia ends up killing her ex-lover Johnny Forbes. Meanwhile, Johnny's married son, Roger Forbes, is appointed the new university president, and he and Merrill fall in love at first sight.

Episode 2: Monday, June 27, 1983
Doug and Merrill attend the Alden reception as does Garth Slater, his wife June and their daughter Lily.
