Remembering John Heard 1946 - 2017

Actor John Heard, who died Friday at age 71, was probably best known for his role as Macaulay Culkin's father in Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). His other film credits include Between the Lines (1977), First Love (1977), Chilly Scenes of Winter (1979), Heart Beat (1980), Cutter's Way (1981), Cat People (1982), C.H.U.D. (1984), Heaven Help Us (1985), After Hours (1985), The Trip to Bountiful (1985), Big (1988), Beaches (1988), Awakenings (1990), Rambling Rose (1991), Deceived (1991), The Pelican Brief (1993), My Fellow Americans (1996) and Pollock (2000).

Heard received a 1999 Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for HBO's The Sopranos. Other television credits include the 1979 PBS miniseries, The Scarlet Letter, and the 1995-96 CBS series, The Client, as well as recurring roles on CBS's CSI: Miami (2003-05), The WB's Jack & Bobby (2004-05) and Fox's Prison Break (2005-06).

Heard also appeared on Broadway in Warp (1973), Hamlet (1975-76), Total Abandon (1983) and The Glass Menagerie (1983-84) as Jim O'Connor. He was married to actress Margot Kidder from 1979-80 (but they separated after only six days), and he dated actress Melissa Leo for three years in the 1980s (they had a son in 1987).
