Remembering Edie Windsor 1929 - 2017

Activist Edie Windsor, who died today at age 88, became the matriarch of the LGBT rights movement during her successful fight for marriage equality in the United States. She was the lead plaintiff in the landmark SCOTUS case that successfully overturned Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act in 2013. That same year Edie was a runner-up (to Pope Francis) for TIME magazine's Person of the Year, and she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Out magazine.

Below you can watch a segment from the LGBT series, In the Life, about the 2009 documentary, Edie and Thea: A Very Long Engagement. I've also included Edie's interview with ABC News' Diane Sawyer on June 26, 2013, and her 2014 acceptance speech for her LOGO Trailblazers Award.
