Groovy Game Show #3 (in which we ring in the new year with Fannie Flagg and Match Game)

Anyone who watched CBS's Match Game back in the 1970s fondly remembers that every New Year's Eve (or Day) the show would feature a celebratory unveiling of its new sign. The following two episodes (#1129 and #1130) originally aired on Tuesday, January 3, and Wednesday, January 4, 1978 (the former was taped on January 2), with host Gene Rayburn and panelists Richard Deacon, Charles Nelson Reilly, Mary Wickes, Richard Dawson, Joyce Bulifant and Fannie Flagg (who is sitting in for an absent Brett Somers). Remembering Rose Marie 1923 - 2017

Actress Rose Marie, who died Thursday at age 94, was best known for her role as TV comedy writer Sally Rogers on the 1961-66 CBS sitcom, The Dick Van Dyke Show, for which she received three Emmy Award nominations. Other television credits include the 1960-61 CBS sitcom, My Sister Eileen, the 1966-81 NBC/syndicated game show, The Hollywood Squares (as a regular panelist), two seasons (1969-71) of the CBS sitcom, The Doris Day Show (as Doris's friend and co-worker Myrna Gibbons), the 1992 CBS sitcom, Scorch, and the 1994 Fox sitcom, Hardball (as the owner of an American League baseball team).

Born Rose Marie Mazzetta, she started performing at age three as "Baby Rose Marie" and, at five, became an NBC radio star. She was then a nightclub performer as a teenager before becoming a radio comedian. She appeared on Broadway in the 1951 musical comedy, Top Banana, and the 1972 comedy, Fun City (co-written by and starring Joan Rivers). And from 1977 to 1985, Rose Marie toured the United States with Rosemary Clooney, Helen O'Connell and Margaret Whiting in the musical revue, 4 Girls 4.

Her feature film credits include International House (1933), Top Banana (1954), The Big Beat (1958), Don't Worry, We'll Think of a Title (1966), Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round (1966), Cheaper to Keep Her (1981), Lunch Wagon (1981), Witchboard (1986), Sandman (1993), Psycho (1998) as the uncredited voice of Norma Bates, Lost & Found (1999), Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the Thirteenth (2000) and Wait for Your Laugh (a 2017 documentary about her life). And she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2001.

Below I've selected some videos to celebrate Rose Marie's life and career.
