The Groovy List, DEEP DISH and Cher wish you a groovy little Christmas

The Groovy List is a weekly roundup of groovy gay pop culture (the next Groovy List will be on Saturday, January 6):

1) Groovy Gal: Keely Smith
The singer, who died December 16 at age 89, and her first husband, singer Louis Prima, won the first Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Vocal Group for their 1958 Top 20 hit of "That Old Black Magic". That same year she also received a nomination for Best Female Vocal Performance for her first solo hit, "I Wish You Love". Smith appeared in three films - Thunder Road (1958) with Robert Mitchum and Senior Prom (1958) and Hey Boy! Hey Girl! (1959) with Prima. After divorcing Prima in 1961, she continued to record as a solo artist, and her 2001 album, Keely Sings Sinatra, received a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. And in 1998, Smith received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Below you can watch Keely Smith and Louis Prima sing "That Old Black Magic" in 1959 as well as her appearance as the Mystery Guest on What's My Line? on March 18, 1962.
