101 Groovy TV Movies #93: A Howling in the Woods

Today I continue my list of 101 Groovy TV Movies Worth Watching with A Howling in the Woods, which originally aired as the NBC World Premiere Movie on Friday, November 5, 1971 (it was released theatrically in Europe and elsewhere).

Directed by Daniel Petrie (who also directed A Raisin in the Sun, Lifeguard, Sybil and The Betsy), the movie stars Barbara Eden as an unhappy housewife who returns to her hometown where she is disturbed by everyone's strange behavior as well as a mysterious howling in the woods. The cast also includes Eden's I Dream of Jeannie co-star Larry Hagman (as her husband), Vera Miles, John Rubinstein, Tyne Daly, Ruta Lee and Lisa Gerritsen (who played Cloris Leachman's daughter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Phyllis).

Another one I loved when I first saw it even if it turns out to be a bit misleading. It was still satisfying in the end. It used to run all the time in the 80's and early 90's and then just disappeared. I think the big hook that had it running more than most TV movies was the costarring of Eden and Hagman so far removed from I Dream of Jeannie.
